Mini Tummy Tuck
Conveniently located to serve San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and the Bay Area, SF
The abdominal region should be flat, free of stretch marks, without extra skin, and provide solid muscular support. Pregnancy, weight gain, and the aging process work against this ideal. Abdominoplasty strives to return the “tummy” to its ideal state.
-Andrew Barnett, MD
Our bodies are changing every day. Over the course of time, we will experience a loss of skin elasticity and begin to form fatty deposits in different areas of our bodies. One area that exhibits these changes the most is the midsection. Women who have had children are prime examples of this because having a child can significantly alter their abdominal areas and cause them to retain excess skin and fat in the abdomen well after giving birth. It’s not always possible to get rid of these issues with diet and exercise alone. Sometimes a little extra help is needed to achieve the desired abdominal contours. That’s why Barnett Aesthetic Plastic Surgery proudly provides the mini tummy tuck surgery in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
Unlike the traditional tummy tuck surgery, the mini tummy tuck is designed to help patients who require minimal correction to achieve the abdominal contours they desire. The mini tummy tuck is a less invasive procedure that utilizes a short-scar incision on the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area, and often does not require an incision around the belly button. This means the procedure is much faster than the traditional tummy tuck and has a more comfortable recovery process. Patients will also reap the benefits of a less visible post-surgical mark that can be easily hidden as it heals.
The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure
To begin the procedure, Dr. Andrew Barnett will use a general anesthetic to help keep you comfortable during the surgical process. He will then make an incision above the pubic bone, but low enough that it can remain hidden under your clothes. Dr. Barnett will then tighten the underlying muscles, remove loose skin from the lower abdomen, and get rid of the stubborn fatty deposits. Liposuction may also be performed at the same time.
Once the necessary corrections are made, he will close the incisions and bandage the treatment area to make sure it is safe. Drains are generally not required.
Recovering From Your Mini Tummy Tuck
Even though the mini tummy tuck is less invasive than the traditional technique, it’s still important that you take some time to rest and recover after the surgery is completed. You can expect the recovery to take about two weeks before you return to normal activities, six weeks for full athletic activity. You may experience some swelling and bruising initially, but this is temporary and will subside. If it becomes too uncomfortable, we can provide medication to help put you at ease.
We highly recommend taking time off work and avoiding strenuous activities during your recovery period. We’ll provide you with detailed instructions on how to properly take care of yourself after the mini tummy tuck surgery.
Good Candidates for a Mini Tummy Tuck
The mini tummy tuck is designed for both men and women who are struggling to deal with minor loose skin and fatty deposits that don’t respond well to diet and exercise alone. You may be a good candidate if you suffer from skin laxity in the midsection and deposits of excess stubborn fat that does not respond well to diet or exercise. Ideal candidates should be in good physical health and have realistic expectations. We’ll help determine if you’d make a good candidate for the mini tummy tuck surgery during a consultation.
